Il existe une Science de l'Enrichissement. C'est une science exacte, comme l'algèbre ou l'arithmétique. Certaines lois gouvernent le processus d'acquisition des richesses. Quiconque apprend et respecte ces lois est mathématiquement certain de devenir riche. La possession d'argent et de biens résulte d'une certaine manière d'agir. Deviennent riches, ceux qui agissent de cette certaine manière, délibérément ou accidentellement.
Tandis que ceux qui ne suivent pas cette certaine manière d'agir, peu importe leur ardeur au travail ou leurs capacités, demeurent pauvres. C'est une loi naturelle : les mêmes causes produisent toujours les mêmes effets. Dès lors, devient infailliblement riche quiconque apprend à agir de cette certaine manière. Cet ouvrage est pragmatique et non philosophique. Il s'agit d'un manuel pratique et non d'un traité basé sur des théories.
Il a été rédigé à l'intention de quiconque a un besoin urgent d'argent, qui souhaite avant tout s'enrichir et garder les considérations philosophiques pour après. Il s'adresse à ceux qui n'ont à ce jour trouvé ni le loisir, ni les moyens, ni la possibilité d'étudier en profondeur la métaphysique, mais qui veulent obtenir des résultats et sont prêts à utiliser des conclusions scientifiques comme point de départ de leur action en faisant l'économie de tous les processus qui ont permis d'arriver à ces conclusions. Wattles naquit aux États-Unis en 1860. Il connut beaucoup d'échecs et fut longtemps pauvre. Des années de réflexions et l'application des principes de la Nouvelle Pensée - qu'il étudia par le biais des ouvres de Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, Schopenhauer, Hegel, Emerson et autres - lui permirent de complètement transformer sa vie et de trouver la prospérité.
M. Wattles est mort en 1911, peu après la publication de La Science de l'enrichissement. Son ouvre a permis à des milliers d'étudiants de la Force de l'Esprit d'atteindre des niveaux de réussite qui ont dépassé leurs ambitions. Parmi d'autres, le grand orateur Napoleon Hill - l'auteur de Réfléchissez et devenez riche (Think and Grow Rich)- a exprimé l'immense dette qu'il lui devait pour son ouvre de pionnier.
